Exporting a Table
Saving Your File
To export a table generated by the Old Bailey Proceedings Online click on the Export button. You should then be prompted by your browser to either Save or Open the file. The precise nature of the prompt is determined by your browser and its settings. You should choose Save. In some browsers (such as Firefox) you will also be prompted to select a file extension or type in which to save the table, but the normal file extension will be XML.
You can open the resulting file in most spreadsheet or word processing applications. In some applications, such as Microsoft Excel, you may be warned that the file content is not the same as the file extension. You can ignore this warning.
If you then wish to export the data to other tabular formats (Google Maps, etc.), most spreadsheet packages allow you to save your file with a .csv extension.
The file can also be imported into a database program such as Microsoft Access, but you may need to change the file extension (e.g. to .html or .txt) for this to work correctly.
Exporting from Internet Explorer
If you are using Internet Explorer you can export tables directly to Microsoft Excel by right clicking your mouse over the upper left hand cell of a table. The menu generated should include the command: Export to Microsoft Excel. This function also allows you to create PDF files from your Old Bailey results table.
