1226. DANIEL MURPHY , stealing 1 handkerchief, value 4s.; the goods of William Simpson, from his person.

JOHN SIMPSON . On 12th June I was passing along High-street, in the Borough—when near the Town-hall, I felt a tug at my pocket—I turned, and saw the prisoner and another boy—the prisoner had my handkerchief in his hand—I laid hold of him, and gave him in charge—I had my handkerchief safe, and had used it six or seven minutes before—this is it.

SAMUEL CROSS (policeman, M 83). The prisoner was given in my charge, and this handkerchief.

GUILTY.—Recommended to mercy by the Prosecutor. — Confined Four Months.
