WILLIAM                      HAYWARD                                                                                                          was indicted for                                                          feloniously stealing on the 26th day of July                      last, twenty-five yards of Irish linen, value 27 s. and nine silk handkerchiefs, value 4 s. the property of                                                                         Ann                            Ravenhill                                                                                                                                                            , privily in her shop            .</p>               <p>                                                JOHN                   MOUL                                                                                        sworn.</p>               <p>I live with                                  Ann                   Ravenhill                                                                                        at Norton-Falgate                                                      , she keeps a linen-draper's shop                  ; on Tuesday the 26th of July, she lost twenty-five yards of Irish, and nine silk handkerchiefs, the Irish was taken off the shelf behind the counter in her shop, they were in the window, I saw them there that morning, I missed them a little after one.</p>               <p>Why did you suspect the prisoner? - I was at dinner, and I saw somebody run hastily down the steps, I immediately jumped out of my chair, and ran out of the door, I could not see any body, I came back again, I took my hat, and somebody told me which way the prisoner went, I pursued and saw him, I came up with him in a very few minutes, he was stopped by Cole.</p>               <p>                                                JOSEPH                   COLE                                                                                        sworn.</p>               <p>I stopped the prisoner, I believe it was him to the best of my knowledge, I stopped him in Petticoat-lane upon the cry of stop that lad, I saw him drop the piece of Irish, I held him by the collar while I picked it up, it is here.</p>               <p>- ARMSTRONG sworn.</p>               <p>I received the care of this Irish from Mr. Cole and the prosecutor, and the charge of the prisoner.</p>               <p>(The Irish deposed to by the private mark.)</p>               <p>Moul. I do not know who marked it.</p>               <p>Did you find a cavity after he went out of the shop? - Yes.</p>               <p>Was it that piece that was wanting? - Yes.</p>               <p>What is the value of it? - It cost thirteen pence a yard, and there are twenty-five yards.</p>               <p>Cole. I saw him drop some handkerchiefs, but I do not know how many at the same time.</p>               <p>PRISONER's DEFENCE.</p>               <p>I had been in the city, and a gentleman asked me to carry that piece of Irish, and told me he would give me six-pence, he bid me run all the way, and the gentleman laid hold of me.</p>               <p>                                                                           GUILTY            ,                                                          Death            .</p>               <p>He was humbly recommended to mercy by the Prosecutor and Jury.</p>               <p>Tried by the second Middlesex Jury before Mr.                                  Baron                   HOTHAM                                                                                       .</p>            </div>
