Sarah Stephens, Theft > pocketpicking, 14th October 1702.

Sarah Stephens alias Manshty , of the Parish of Stepny , was indicted for picking the pocket of David Hughes , on the 13th of October last, and taking from him a Linnen-purse work'd with Cruel, and 20 s in Money, numbred . The Prosecutor said that he was drinking at a House where the Prisoner was, and going his way over Goodmans-fields , she overtook him again, and would have him to make her drink, which he refused, and on a suddain got her Hand into his Pocket, which he fealing, she snatched it out again with the Purse, and ran away; there was other Evidences who said, that she confest, where she had left the Purse, and accordingly found it by her Directions. She denied the Fact, saying, she found it in the Street, but could not prove it, or call any to her Reputation, the Jury found her Guilty .
