Elizabeth Barnes, Theft > shoplifting, 24th February 1697.

Elizabeth Barnes , of the Parish of St. Martins Ludgate , was indicted for feloniously stealing 12 Yards of flower'd Silk, value 50 s. on the 11th of January last, the Goods of Thomas Fielder appeared, that the Prisoner [Text unreadable in original.] to the Shop, and cheapned some Silk, and one of them took away . The Prisoner said, That she was in the Shop, but did not know of the taking of any thing away. She said, That she was a poor Woman, and took great pains for her livelihood. The Jury acquitted her.
