2223. BENJAMIN EVERETT was indicted for stealing, on the 12th of August, 28lbs. weight of coffee, value 2l. 5s. and 1 bag, value 6d.; the goods of John Chatfield.

THOMAS ISRAEL BUNDY . I am servant to Mr. John Chatfield, who lives in Aldgate. On the 12th of August I put this bag of coffee at his door, inside—I saw it safe at ten o'clock, and soon after the street-keeper spoke to me, I then missed it.

GEORGE TEAKLE (police-sergeant H 8.) I stopped the prisoner with this bag of coffee, in Essex-street, Whitechapel, about eleven o'clock in the morning—there was another roan with him, whom we took, but he made his escape—the prisoner said he received it of that man.

Cross-examined by MR. CLARKSON. Q. How far is it from the prosecutor's shop to where you took the prisoner? A. About five minutes, walk—the prosecutor's shop could not be seen from there.

NOT GUILTY .
