1409. ANN WEYMOUTH was indicted for stealing, on the 13th May , 1 blanket, value 8s. , the goods of James Wise .
JAMES WISE . I live in Platt-terrace . I let the prisoner and a person who appeared as her husband, a first floor back room - they stayed five weeks; I missed a blanket on the 17th of May - her husband had left the room; the prisoner came that night and slept, and went away in the morning; the husband when came, and said he wished I would see after it - I heard she was in the neighbourhood, and took her.
FRANCIS HENRY PARKER . I am a pawnbroker. I have a blanket, pawned by the prisoner and another woman on the 13th of May - the other woman produced the blanket and wanted 4s. on it; I said I could not lend more than 3s. the prisoner said, "It is mine," and after some time she took the 3s.
HENRY SMITH . I am an officer. On the 18th of May the prisoner was given in charge - I took her to the pawnbroker, and he identified her.(Property produced and sworn to)
Prisoner's Defence. I had not left the lodging; I was coming home when the prosecutor met me - I had borrowed 2s. or 3s., and pawned the blanket to pay it.
JAMES WISE . Her husband had given up the key of the room. NOT GUILTY .
