276. REBECCA CARLTON was indicted for a misdemeanor .

JOHN BASTABLE . I am a butcher , and live in Long-lane . On the 11th of November , the prisoner came into my shop, about four o'clock, and bought a sheep's heart, which came to 3d., and paid me a bad shilling - I gave her a 6d. and 3d.; on her going out, I sounded the shilling - my son-in-law said it was bad, and fetched her back; my daughter searched her - I gave the shilling to Todd.

THOMAS TODD . I am Bastable's son-in-law - I fetched the prisoner back; my wife searched her; she resisted a great deal - my wife found she had a pocket behind, between her shoulders; she called for help, and the officer went in - I took the shilling, and gave it to Pye.

EDWARD JONES . I am a milkman - the prisoner was brought back to the shop by Todd; he showed me the shilling; she was taken into the back-parlour.

THOMAS PYE . I am a constable. I saw her searched, and the pocket found; Jones gave me the shilling - fifteen counterfeit shillings were in the coat-pocket; and in her basket were several odd articles of provisions, all in small quantities.

JOHN FIELD . This shilling and these fifteen are all counterfeit, and from the same die.

Prisoner. I found the packet in Long-lane - I was so rejoiced, I took out 1s., and went to buy a heart.
